Lesson 5: Ghettos and the Theresienstadt Ghetto
Learning Objective: Describe what life was like in Ghetto's. To understand the differences in Ghettos and Concentration Camps under the control of Nazi Germany.

Learning Activities:Mr T session at front:
1. Show movie at start of Lodz Ghetto CD Rom, and short video on right. (If you have it, or Warsaw Ghetto CD ROM) 2. Use Ghetto's Handout - Pg 104-107 (Echoes and Reflections Lesson 4). Create Google Doc called Ghettos Read Pages as a class or teacher read and explain some key concepts. Discuss Main Points: Write 5 main points from the information on Page 104-105. Discuss Main Points: Write 5 Points from the Conditions in the Ghettos section Page 105-106. 3. Discuss Theresienstadt and Warsaw Ghettos Use CD Rom and Warsaw Ghetto information to explain what happened to the Jews before "Deportation to the East!" Group Work: 4. Use the images in Slide show or images MUST DO: To show life in the ghetto ... read notes below Slideshow to see what each photo shows. CAN DO: Use the images from Echoes and Reflections 5. Testimony - Echoes and Reflection (Lesson 4) CAN DO: Show Part 1 or 2 as suits students. Mr T will discuss with you afterwards, ask any questions? On Google Docs write down your thoughts and feelings! 6. LODZ Ghetto (Page 108-115) MUST DO: Teacher Read Poems page 112-113, Diary entry 115. Students to imagine their life in Ghetto and write a 2 or 3 paragraph Diary entry. Life in the Ghettos: MUST DO: Play the first video on this page a series of videos on life in the Warsaw and other Ghettos. Will help with paragraph below! Write a paragraph of how you think you would of lived in a Ghetto, what would you have done to survive, what would of been the limits you would of gone too? Review/Reflection: Big Question: Why did the Nazis want to kill the Jews specifically? Please write a series of linked paragraphs (minimum 4) to answer this question to share with your teacher. |
